Techno Tuesday - January Recap
I was emotionally unstable in January. Truth be told, I’m still feeling that way, but it was more intense in January.
I buried my emotions under clouds of weed smoke and slices of greasy pizza.
During this time, it was difficult for me to connect with music. I felt blocked up.
There’s only a few songs that pierced through my resistance and blossomed into flow state.
These tracks became my medicine.
Some felt like a strong, supportive hug when I needed to cry.
Others felt like a blissful escape when I needed to laugh.
Today, we celebrate the 5 tracks from January that are being added to our Techno Tuesday playlist.
If you’re feeling any of these tracks - we encourage you to show some love and support to the artists and labels involved.
Lean into gratitude and SEND IT.
Artist: Turu Anasi
Track: Meditation
Label: Cosmic Awakenings
Release Date: January 22, 2021
BPM/Key: 91 / D minor
Let’s start with Meditation.
Depression couldn’t stop me from grooving to this track.
On days when I didn’t want to get out of bed, Meditation got me on my feet. Sometimes one step of movement can get you out of your head and into flow - a fresh start.
Highly family friendly, you can get Grandma tapping her toes to this one.
Artist: Marsh
Track: There For Me (Amonita Remix)
Label: Anjunadeep
Release Date: January 27, 2021
BPM/Key: 121 / E minor
Oh baby, this groove locked me in from the first beat and held on for weeks.
This is my most listened-to track of the month.
I have a strong distaste for whiny vocals and Amonita’s groove was so potent on this one that the vocals didn’t break my flow.
There’s a familiar sound in this track that took me 2 weeks to place. I could hear pieces of M.O.S. - Gerda & Kay in this remix. (Listen to Gerda & Kay)
Russia does it again, great work.
Artist: Kevin de Vries
Track: Polar Peak
Label: Afterlife
Release Date: January 22, 2021
BPM/Key: 125 / A major
Banger of the month.
Techno Tuesday is all about the feeling we get from music. We’re generally drawn to melodic floaters, but from time to time you need a BANGER to get your life in order.
Part of our intention is to introduce the downtempo fans to bangers, and vice versa. Let’s remove the labels and lean into music we love.
If it’s good, it’s good and this is great.
Buckle up and SEND IT.
Artist: Pambouk
Track: Forest Language
Label: Hoomidaas
Release Date: January 22, 2021
BPM/Key: 120 / B major
I missed this track’s greatness at first.
It wasn’t until February that I heard it in a set and said “whaaaaaat is that?”
I Shazam’d it, only to realize I already had this track saved in my library.
Ever since then, I found myself coming back to Forest Language for a proper 7 minute dance session.
TRACK OF THE MONTH
Artist: Woo York
Track: Paloma
Label: Afterlife
Release Date: January 22, 2021
BPM/Key: 124 / D minor
Special.
This is one of those tracks that allows me to tap into my darkness and greet it with light.
This song opened my heart and made it easier to cry. To let go.
I reached out to Woo York about this track and their statement was perfect:
“Paloma” was recorded during this pandemic and for us, as well as other artists, it's a struggling time.
Life changed in a moment and you need to find sources of inspiration to avoid getting stuck in the loop of negative thoughts.
We traveled to the Carpathian Mountains. Originally we were going to stay for a week, in the end we stayed for over a month. While being there, we recorded a few compositions. As you might notice, they are softer and more soulful than our usual productions.
The tracks we recorded in the mountains were produced with an intention to create an uplifting vibe. After listening, we hope we will bring you up with hopes of a better future.
Damn. I can feel that.
I recently shared a story about introducing a new friend to Paloma. When the track ended, I looked over to see her response. She was in tears.
This is a powerful piece of music right here. Thank you.
